Sometech dental operating microscopes in Canada

A dental operating microscope changes two things at once: what you can see, and how you sit while seeing it. Sometech builds surgical-grade microscopes for endodontics, restorative dentistry and oral surgery, with the optics and stability that make magnification usable for a full appointment rather than a few minutes. i-VISTAMED supplies, installs and supports them across Canada.

  • Installed by us — Site assessment, mounting and calibration
  • Ergonomics first — Upright posture through long appointments
  • Documentation ready — Camera and video options for records
  • Canada-wide — Delivery, training and service

Where a microscope earns its place

Magnification is not a luxury in these procedures — it is the difference between finding the anatomy and guessing at it.

    Endodontics

Locating calcified and additional canals, assessing isthmuses, and inspecting the pulp chamber floor before you commit to access.

    Restorative

Margin assessment, caries removal endpoints and finishing quality you cannot verify reliably at loupe magnification.

    Periodontal & surgical

Flap management, root surface debridement and suturing with a stable, coaxially illuminated field.

    Documentation & teaching

Integrated camera and video paths for clinical records, case presentation and mentoring.

What to look at before you buy

    Optics and illumination

Coaxial illumination and apochromatic optics are what make magnified dentine readable. Brightness alone does not fix a field you cannot resolve.

    Mechanical stability

A head that drifts is a head you fight all appointment. Mount type and arm balance matter as much as the optics — and they depend on your operatory, which is why we assess the site first.

    Ergonomics

The clinical case for magnification is diagnostic. The career case is postural: a microscope pulls you upright, and neck and back load is what ends most clinical careers early.

    Planning an installation

Ceiling, wall or floor mountDetermined by your operatory’s structure and how many rooms the scope has to serve. We assess this before quoting rather than after.
Magnification rangeEndodontics typically needs the higher end of the range; restorative work spends most of its time in the middle. Step magnification suits both.
DocumentationDecide early whether you need stills, video or both — retrofitting a camera path is more disruptive than specifying it up front.

    Frequently asked questions

Do you install dental microscopes, or only supply them?
We supply and install. Installation includes a site assessment, mounting, balancing and calibration, plus orientation for the clinical team.
    Which mount should I choose?
It depends on ceiling structure, operatory layout and whether the microscope will serve more than one room. That assessment happens before the quote, not after.
Is a microscope worth it if I already use loupes?
They solve different problems. Loupes give modest magnification with mobility; a microscope gives coaxial illumination, higher magnification and a fixed working posture. Most clinicians who add a microscope keep loupes for other tasks.
    Can the microscope record cases?
Camera and video options are available for clinical records, case presentation and teaching. Specify this up front — adding it later is more disruptive.
How long does delivery and installation take in Canada?
Timelines depend on the configuration and the site assessment. Both are confirmed in writing with your quote.
